Trio Matamoros

Trío Matamoros was one of the most famous Cuban musical groups. Bandleader and singer Miguel Matamoros , guitarist Rafael Cueto and percussionist Siro Rodríguez founded the Trío Matamoros in their hometown of Santiago de Cuba in 1925 . They coined the term Bolero - Son and adopted elements from Swing , Mambo and Rumba .

When Miguel Matamoros had problems with his voice in the early 1940s, he engaged various singers to relieve him. In 1940 Guillermo Portabales joined the trio and Benny Moré sang along from 1945 to 1947. In 1969 the group finally broke up. Matamoros died two years later at the age of 77.

The single Son de la loma , released in 1929, was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007, with which the American Recording Academy has been honoring historical recordings of particular importance and lasting quality since 2001.
