Trịnh Đình Thảo

Trịnh Đình Thảo (* 1902 ; † 1986 ) was a Vietnamese lawyer and politician. As Minister of Justice in 1945, he belonged to a pro- Japanese Vietnamese government and joined the communists during the Vietnam War .

Life

Trịnh Đình Thảo was born in the province of Hải Dương in Tonkin . He studied in France Law and completed his training in 1929 from the doctorate. He returned to French Indochina and practiced law in Saigon . He moved both in conservative circles of the wealthy local elite and in left-wing nationalist circles. He was also active as a Freemason and served the leader of the Cao Dai sect Pham Cong Tac as legal advisor.

After the Japanese came to power in the colony in 1945, Trin Dinh Thao became Minister of Justice in the Vietnamese government under Tran Trong Kim, formed under the aegis of Japan . As a minister, he mainly sought the release of local prisoners who had previously been detained by the colonial authorities . After the defeat of Japan and the August Revolution , he remained without political office.

Trinh Dinh Thao fell out with several political leaders in South Vietnam and was imprisoned several times. In 1968 he joined the communist guerrillas in the south of the country and became vice president of the provisional revolutionary government in South Vietnam. After the Communist victory in 1975, he became a member of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
