Trading Pieces is the debut album by the US death metal band Deeds of Flesh . It was released in 1996 through Repulse Records .
History of origin
After the successful EP Gradually Melted was released via Wild Rags Records , the band received a contract with the Spanish music label "Repulse Records", on which the first album was then released. The cooperation between the band and the label was so good that the band members opened the American branch of "Repulse Records".
background
The cover design caused irritation, as the artwork was used in a similar version by the band Embalmer for their EP There Was Blood Everywhere .
The album was already sold out, but was remixed and re-released through Unique Leader Records .
Music style and lyrics
The music is still very clearly influenced by greats like Cannibal Corpse and Deicide . The lyrics deal with cannibalism and infanticide , among other things . Although there is no direct reference to real stories, the texts are similar to certain events. For example, the text of the sixth song Acid Troops reads “ They take LSD to change the world they see ” (German: “They take LSD to change their world”). The lyrics of the song allude to reports dealing with drug use during the Vietnam War .
