In the USSR and the German Democratic Republic, tractor driver was a term for drivers in collective farms or agricultural production cooperatives (LPG) who did their harvesting work with agricultural machinery , mostly tractors of the brands Progress Agricultural Machinery or Belarus . This term was also used for combine harvesters .
The term, which appeared around 1948, is a borrowing from Russian Тракторист .
