Tramea insularis is a dragonfly - kind of genre tramea of the subfamily Panta Linae . The species is widespread mainly in the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles, but also in south and west Texas , as well as in Mexico it is considered native.

Construction of the Imago

The T. insularis reaches a length of 41 to 48 millimeters, of which 26 to 31 millimeters are on the abdomen . The face is brown in young animals but turns black with age in males. The upper lip is black in both sexes. The top of the head is purple. The complex eyes are hazel brown. The thorax (arthropod) is brown and has no other patterns. The hind wings reach a length between 36 and 40 millimeters and white at the base on a brown band. The wing veins are mainly red. The legs are black except for places directly at the base. The abdomen is red except for segments eight, nine and sometimes ten. The two to three non-red segments, however, are black.
