Arlene Carol Dahl (born August 11, 1925 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American actress who became famous in the 1950s as a “red-haired beauty”.

Life

Arlene Dahl grew up as a child of Norwegian immigrants in Minnesota and got by with small jobs before trying her hand at acting on New York's Broadway in 1945 . In 1947 she received her first small film role in MGM's comedy Life with Father ( Life with Father ). Just a year later, she was seen in leading roles. In 1949 she starred alongside Robert Taylor in the western The Last of Fort Gamble ( Ambush ). In Richard Thorpe's film musical Drei kleine Worts ( Three Little Words ) she was able to prove her singing talent alongside Fred Astaire and Vera-Ellen .

Similar to other red-haired actresses of her time, such as Maureen O'Hara and Rhonda Fleming , Dahl was particularly frequently cast in adventure films such as The Corsair's Beloved ( Caribbean , 1952) or The Blue Stone of the Maharajah ( The Diamond Queen , 1953), in which Her hair in Technicolor colors was particularly effective. In 1956, she was also able to convince as a psychopath in Allan Dwan's Street of Crime ( Slightly Scarlet ). Her perhaps best-known role, however, she had in 1959 in the Jules Verne film The Journey to the Center of the Earth ( Journey to the Center of the Earth ) at the side of James Mason .

In the 1960s, Dahl increasingly withdrew from show business in order to devote himself to her own cosmetics brand and to write columns on the subject of beauty in women's magazines. She later published a number of books on the subject.

Arlene Dahl was married six times, u. a. from 1951 to 1952 with the actor Lex Barker and from 1954 to 1960 with the actor and film producer Fernando Lamas . From their marriages she has three children, u. a. the actor Lorenzo Lamas .
