Tramway Museum Graz
The Tramway Museum Graz is located in the former remise of the Kleinbahn Graz-Mariatrost at the Mariatrost terminus of tram line 1 of the Graz Linien . It houses mainly railcars of the tram from Graz , but also from other cities, including Vienna , Amsterdam and New York City .
history
The club Tramway Museum Graz in 1971 by the building officer hc DI Erwin Franz ( 1915 - 2010 founded). His great ancestor was the builder of the Graz - Maria Trost electric railway , which later became the tram line 1, which had its terminus here. In 1983 the Tramway Museum moved to its current location.
In addition to many small objects , the museum currently houses 40 historic vehicles , the oldest dating from 1873.
The 566
One of these historic vehicles is the eight-axle 566. The articulated railcar 566 was built in 1954 by DUEWAG as a four-axle vehicle and put into service under the road number 1007 by the Wuppertal transport company . Its original color scheme was cream with chrome-green decorative stripes below the window line and a gray roof.
In 1960, the car was converted into an eight-axle vehicle by DÜWAG. The car was cut apart in the middle, lengthened and supplemented with the middle section plus two bogies. The different components are clearly visible on the windows. The car was put back into service with road number 8013 in the same paint scheme. In 1978 the car was renumbered and 8013 became 3813.
Around 1980 its appearance changed fundamentally: it was painted orange and got a blue decorative stripe below the window line. The roof was also painted blue. The wheel racks and pantographs remained gray. He did his job until the closure of the Wuppertal tram on May 30, 1987.
