The Transasia-Express ( Transasya-Express ) is an international train connection between Turkey and Iran with a length of about 2,400 km.

history

The Van ferry , with which the “Vangölü-Express” was previously used to cross Lake Van.

The connection was introduced after the railway line between the two countries was completed in 1971. At that time the train operated under the name “Vangölü-Express” on the route Istanbul - Tehran . The cars - at least the sleeping car of the train - were originally on the Lake Van between Tatvan and Van trajektiert .

During the political crises in and between the two countries involved, the connection was repeatedly interrupted, most recently in 2015.

present

Since August 2019, the train has been running once a week between Ankara and Tehran. The segment between Istanbul and Ankara was omitted because there is now high-speed traffic here . Also, the connection is no longer continuously operated by one train: Instead, travelers have to change to the ship to cross Lake Van and board a second train when it arrives. The trip takes about 2 ½ days. A TCDD train runs on the branch west of Lake Van, and a train from RAI to the east of Lake Van , which also has a dining car .
