location
The transformer house is located on Am Merreter Weg, which leads from Merreter to Knoor , on a meadow diagonally across from the Kamphof, Merreter 51, a listed building.
architecture
The switch house was built in the form of a slim transformer tower on an approximately square floor plan made of dark-fired brick masonry. The access is on the ground floor on the side facing the street. Further wall openings are on the north side of the structure. In terms of design, the sturdy concrete slab of the flat roof corresponds to an only slightly protruding base zone . The sharp-edged, symmetrical design of the shaft was originally additionally emphasized by the execution of the circumferential gutter in a box shape.
In the area of the tower head, four only slightly protruding brick strips run around the building. The overhead lines fed in from three directions are connected here via insulators . With the restrained use of formal design elements, they give the entry zone of the overhead lines a sparingly indicated, but safe, architecturally accentuated setting. A brick roll layer is arranged directly below the concrete slab at the upper edge and at the lower edge of the discharge zone without protruding from the wall. Further rolling layers accentuate the upper edge of the plinth and the door / window lintels.
