Novo Mundo Trappist Abbey

The Trappist abbey Novo Mundo (lat. Abbatia Beatae Mariae de Mundo Novo ; port. Nossa Senhora do Novo Mundo Mosteiro Trapista ) since 1977, a Brazilian monastery of Trappist first in Lapa, Paraná , since 1983 in Campo do Tenente, Paraná, Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Curitiba .

history

The American Trappist Abbey of Genesee (in cooperation with the Argentine Trappist Abbey of Azul ) founded the monastery Nossa Senhora do Novo Mundo (“Our Lady of the New World”) in Lapa, southwest of Curitiba , in 1977 , which was opened further south in 1982 (towards Rio Negro ) moved to Campo de Tenente, was elevated to a simple priory in 1988 , an independent priory in 2002 and an abbey in 2008 .
