Vineyard

The Trarbacher Hühnerberg was mentioned as a prestigious location as early as 1897. This is due to the exposure of the vineyard, which shows theater-like in the direction of south-southwest to south-southeast and is therefore exposed to high solar radiation and, on the other hand, because the slate soil typical of the Moselle is to be found.

Since the vineyards are extremely steep, they were terraced as early as the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (massive broken slate walls were built) to protect the slope from erosion, but also to align the vineyard more optimally towards the sun. Due to the steep incline, the vineyard was largely laid fallow from the 1980s, as no machines could cultivate the vineyard. Therefore the areas are partly overgrown. Since the year 2000, however, the vineyard has been gradually recultivated by local winemakers. The most important producer is the Martin Müllen winery.
