The monastery Sveti Joakim Osogovski (Macedonian: Manastir "Свети Jоаким Осоговски" ) is a monastery three kilometers northeast of the town of Kriva Palanka . It is located in the Osogowo Mountains, 825 meters above sea level and belongs to the Kriva Palanka Province.

history

The history of the complex began in the 12th century when the region around Osogovo became part of the Byzantine Empirebelonged to. Saint Joakim Osogovski lived in this place as a hermit monk in the 11th century. The older and smaller of the two monastery churches "Mala Bogorodica" was built in the 12th century and was rebuilt twice after fires. Within the church there arises a source that is considered holy. It is assumed that Saint Joakim drank from it. From 1847 to 1851 the larger monastery church of Sv. Joakim Osogovski. The monastery is also known for its extraordinary frescoes on the outer walls. To the right of the main entrance of the Orthodox Church, a terrifying hell scenario is shown: Burning people, disfigured, tortured animals, a village in flames.
