The Trash Can Sinatras are a Scottish indie pop band from Irvine , North Ayrshire .

Band history

The Trash Can Sinatras were founded in 1987 by Frank Reader, the brothers John and Stephen Douglas as well as Paul Livingston and George McDaid as a cover band. At a gig in a bar they were met by Simon Dine from Go! Discs discovered and signed.

In early 1990, they first attracted attention with their first release, Obscurity Knocks , although the EP missed the top 75 of the UK charts. The second song, Only Tongue Can Tell , the precursor to their debut album, then became a radio hit in the United States and made it into the top 10 of the rock charts. The album Cake then hit the charts in both the UK and the US, where it stayed for 13 weeks.

In 1993 they had another single hit with Hayfever and the album I've Seen Everything was also quite successful. Nevertheless, their success began to wear off and three years later their album A Happy Pocket was only released in the UK and did not get them any further chart positions. When the label changed hands, the band ended up with no record deal and went bankrupt with their own recording studio.

In the following years the band members kept in touch and continued to perform together occasionally. They even put together another album, but it was never released. It was only in 2004 that she brought a Scottish cultural promotion program to the South-by-Southwest Festival in Texas, which eventually led to a new contract with the New York label Spin Art . With Weightlifting , a new album was released in the same year, with which they reported back. An extensive tour followed, which took her not only through the United States and the British Isles, but also to Japan and Australia. After that a live album and a DVD were released before the Trashcan Sinatras started a new album in 2007. But they were unlucky at first and their US label went bankrupt that year. The next album was finally released in 2009 on Lo-Five Records under the title In the Music .

In October 2014, the band announced recordings for a sixth studio album on their social media channels. A pledge campaign was launched as a financial aid, giving fans the opportunity to pre-order the album in various versions and, depending on the amount of financial participation, get various exclusive bonuses such as merchandise, handwritten lyric sheets, guitar lessons with Paul Livingston or a guitar from Frank Reader secure. On October 21, 2015, the first song “Best Days On Earth” was made available to the campaign participants as part of an update. The same update also announced the name of the upcoming album, "Wild Pendulum". Despite the announcement in August 2015 that the album would be released the following January, the release date was later postponed to April 2016. Before that, however, another track, "Ain't That Something", was released. On April 22nd, 2016 the album was finally released for the participants of the Pledge campaign, on May 13th the official release followed in all formats. At the same time, the band began an extensive US tour with around 20 concerts.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band, an acoustic tour through the USA was announced in August 2017. On this all songs ever released by the Trashcan Sinatras were performed live. In October, while the tour was already running, the start of another pledge campaign was announced. By pre-ordering CDs and DVDs as well as merchandise and exclusive offers, the recording of three consecutive sets on November 4, 2017 at Swing House Studios in Los Angeles should be financed. A total of 42 songs were played on the evening in question, a selection of which will subsequently be released as a concert film or album entitled "All Night in America".

In 2018 the Trashcan Sinatras are touring the UK as support act for Del Amitri.
