The Trauner Verlag + Buchservice GmbH is an Austrian family company that was founded in 1948 from the Ibis Verlag. The company has around 500 authors and 77 employees.

history

The Rudolf-Trauner-Verlag was established in 1948 with an attached travel and mail order bookstore on Hafferlstrasse in Linz . In the post-war period there was a shortage of everything, including books. That is why the publisher mainly translated and published works by well-known authors such as Jack London , Mark Twain , Pearl S. Buck and works by the then popular Austrian writer Maria von Peteani .

Publishing house Trauner

In 1954 the publishing house moved to Baumbachstrasse 4a. In 1960/61, operations at Dinghoferstraße 21 were expanded and the Trauner printing company was founded. In 1964 the construction of the new printing and publishing building on Köglstrasse began; the move took place in 1967. The publishing program was then expanded to include children's and youth literature, picture and art books, literature, travel guides, sports books, guides and the first specialist gastronomic books.

In 1978 the son of the company founder, Rudolf Trauner , joined the company. From 1980 the publisher expanded its gastronomy and school book program. During this time the foundation stone of today's publisher's profile was laid. In 1982 the academic senate of Johannes Kepler University awarded the company the title of “University Press”. Five years later, the “Austrian national coat of arms” was awarded. In 1991 Rudolf Trauner took over the company. Since the 1990s, it has intensified the expansion of the export markets in Germany, Switzerland and South Tyrol.

In 2001 the publishing house was extended and a new corporate identity was introduced. In 2005 the publishing house was reorganized into Trauner Verlag + Buchservice GmbH. Since then, Rudolf Trauner and his wife Ingrid have been in charge. The third generation has also been working in the company with Rudolf Trauner and his wife Sonja since 2009.

Since 2012 it has been intensifying the expansion of online accompanying materials and digital books. The launch of the online platform www.trauner-kompetenzportal.at took place in the same year. At the same time, the company received the “Family and Work Audit” certificate. In 2017, a “German Brand Award” nomination followed, which annually awards the best brands in the German-speaking area. In 2018 the online platform TRAUNER competence portal was replaced by the TRAUNER DigiBox. This contains numerous e-books and additional digital material such as explanatory videos and interactive exercises available for all end devices.

At the end of September 2019, the in-house print shop was closed for economic reasons.

At the end of 2019, the management of the family business was passed on to the third generation from Ingrid and Rudolf Trauner. Her son Rudolf and his wife Sonja have been active in leading positions for several years and now want to lead the media publishing company into a successful future.
