Drift (unit)
Drifting was a Hanoverian measure of volume and was used in the Harz huts for various materials such as ore , slate , gypsum and building lime . Different volumes are possible due to the different number of pitchers (4 or 6 pitchers per ton).
- 1 drift = 40 tons = 160 buckets = 240 heaps = 7.5 cubic feet (hannov.) = 7.476 cubic meters
- 1 drive (ore) = 40 tons = 70 broken pieces = 300 cubic feet (Braunschweiger)
There were also performance data (literal excerpt from) for the Anna Eleonore mine of the 3rd Burgstädter Revieres: "From a depth of 101 pools , 3 drifts of ore are removed in hours with the Wassergöpel , from 234 drifts, however, only 1 drift 30 tons"
In the Alter Segen mine (Rosenhöfer Zug) "3 men with unhealthy dogs mine 2 drives of ore over a length of 250 laughs" and "with the water cap they drive in 12 hours
- 2 ½ drifts from 169 5/8 laughs depth
- 2 3/4 hustle and bustle from a depth of 149 laughs,
- 3 drifts from 130 laughter depths;
- 4 driving from 97 laughter depth "
