  • Treponematoses in animals:

Some diseases caused by treponema are only triggered when there is simultaneous co-infection with other types of bacteria. These treponemas, which are only facultatively pathogenic, are then usually associated with microaerophilic or strictly anaerobic bacteria such as Campylobacter , Bacteroides and Fusobacterium . Mixed infections with the latter are also known as fusotreponematoses . These treponematoses caused by mixed infections are Plaut-Vincent angina in humans ( Treponema vincentii and Fusobacterium nucleatum ) and toe skin inflammation in cattle ( Treponema denticola or Treponema brennaborense associated with Campylobacter faecalis or Bacteroides levii )
