Tres Tabernae

Tres Tabernae was an ancient place in the Italian landscape of Lazio in the area of ​​the present-day city of Cisterna di Latina . It was 33 Roman miles (about 50 km) from Rome on the Via Appia . Between 1993 and 2001, excavation work on the Via Appia uncovered a thermal bath and other buildings that belonged to the original Tres Tabernae at km 58.1 . In November 2009 the municipality of Cisterna purchased part of the site to continue the excavations. A documentation center is to be set up on the Via Appia.

The place is mentioned in numerous letters by Marcus Tullius Cicero and in the Acts of the Apostles ( Acts 28.15  EU ). On September 16, 307, the Roman Emperor Severus was killed there. In late antiquity, Tres Tabernae was the seat of a bishopric; today it is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church.
