The Tressensteinkalk is a rock layer of the Northern Limestone Alps formed in the Upper Jurassic .

Emergence

From the late Upper Triassic onwards, the Tethys seabed slowly sank , causing reefs to form . The Tressensteinkalk is a brecciated reef rubble limestone from this time and comes from the flank area of ​​the Plassenkalk lagoon. Its facies are thick-banked to massive and the color light gray or brownish.

Occurrence

The lime named after the Tressenstein (south of Lake Altaussee) can be found in the western Salzkammergut Alps . The striking, fort-like summit structure of the Loser also consists of Tressenstein limestone.
