Golden Triangle of Art
Golden Triangle of Art (Spanish: Triángulo del Arte also Triángulo de Oro ) refers to a group of museums that are located in downtown Madrid in the area of the Paseo del Prado . The three art museums that designate this triangle are the Museo del Prado , the Museo Reina Sofía and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and border the old town and the Parque del Retiro . A further number of smaller museums are concentrated around the famous museums of the corner points, which together complement the Triángulo del Arte .
Origin of name
The designation of the area as Triángulo de Oro was originally initiated by the press and then introduced by the cultural authorities after the opening of the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in 1992.
Visitors
The three corner points of the triangle, the Museo del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and the Reina Sofia Museum, recorded around 5.3 million visitors in 2008. The Triangle of Art is a popular excursion point in the capital, Madrid.
