Trial was a music project from Hanover , which consisted of the duo Torsten Schröder and Erick Miotke. It was one of the pioneers of German dark electro at the beginning of the 1990s .

history

Trial existed since the beginning of the 1990s with the cast of Torsten Schröder and Erick Miotke. Both previously played in more rock-oriented bands (Schröder was originally active as a drummer) and only turned to electronic music a few years later. Trial was mainly devoted to social problems such as drug abuse ( Snow ) or incurable diseases ( AIDS ).

In 1991 the 8-track demo Conflict ("help me - to be free") was released, which already contains raw versions of titles such as Blut und Eisen , Strange II and Sleeping Dogs . Trial then signed a contract with the Nuremberg record label Hypnobeat and in April 1992 went on tour in Germany as support for Project Pitchfork . After her debut Maxi Blut und Eisen , which received positive reviews , she released the album Zero Feeling in the autumn of the same year , which attracted particular attention in the German electro scene. Within a very short time, titles such as Strange II , Blut und Eisen , Prisoner and the sampler track Too Late were able to establish themselves as scene hits in Europe. Several appearances with bands such as And One , Placebo Effect and Oomph! . Moved into the EBM environment by many journalists at the time , Trial tried to break away from this categorization right from the start:

" Oomph! , Nitzer Ebb or Paranoid all belong in one corner. They produce uniform stamped music. But we want to avoid that. We try to stay playful and free. "

- Trial, 1993

A tour of Germany with Front Line Assembly was planned for January 1993 . However, this was canceled by the headliners. After a few compilation contributions and a label change to Electric Blue Records (Ausfahrt MV GmbH), the second work Secret Pain was published in 1994 , which, however, was unable to build on the success of the debut and was lost in the mass of simultaneous releases on the market due to a lack of attention. At the same time, Trial toured with groups like Orange Sector , Welle: Erdball , Zero Defects , Evils Toy , Endraum and Trauma, and in June 1995 performed at the Leipzig Wave-Gotik-Treffen .

Since then it has been quiet around the band. It was only after the turn of the millennium that it was able to celebrate a comeback, mainly through live performances in Leipzig (Wave-Gotik-Treffen), Erfurt (SC Phauker), Berlin (Werk 9) and Magdeburg (Factory).

On November 17, 2008, the double album No Fate was released on Maxsoniq Recordings. In addition to titles from the previous CD-Rs, it contains some new songs and remixes. But the singer Torsten Schröder then left the band. Erick Miotke then founded the group Trilogy. With this, trial titles will continue to be played live.
