Trice Islands

The Trice Islands are a group of small and icy West Antarctic islands . They are located off the south coast of Thurston Island in the entrance from Peacock Sound to Schwartz Cove west of Evans Point and generally protrude above the level of the surrounding Abbot Ice Shelf .

The islands were mapped using aerial photographs taken during the US Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after the American meteorologist Jack Lynn Trice (1936-2008), who worked at the Byrd station between 1964 and 1965 .
