Southwest German Einhaus

Farmhouse in Gersheim

The southwest German single house (also southwest German farmhouse ) is a broadly structured Einfirsthaus that is widespread in Saarland and neighboring regions. Other names are also used regionally, for example in the Trier area and the Eifel Trier house .

The living area, stable and barn are under one roof with a continuous ridge . While the older houses are mostly one-story, two-story houses can also appear. The houses are usually with the eaves side parallel to the street.

These single houses were usually created as a result of real estate divisions and have replaced larger farms in many villages.

In a narrow strip further to the west, wide- gabled houses are common, where the eaves side is often significantly narrower than the gable side.

The workers' farmhouse is structured in a similar way to the south-west German farmhouse, but much smaller .

The south-west German Einhaus differs from the Lothringerhaus in that it usually has a steeper roof pitch and the lack of a jamb floor under the roof with ventilation openings for the storage facility.
