P. Hesse , 1886

The Trigonochlamydidae are a family of land snails (Stylommatophora). They are nudibranchs with a small rudimentary shell in the shell. In some species it even partially protrudes from the mantle.

features

The animals are relatively small and stretched out mostly only max. 3 cm long. With a few exceptions, the mantle shield is relatively small and usually sits in the middle of the animal's back. The sole of the foot is divided into three parts. The case is very rudimentary and covered by the jacket shield. In one species, the embryonic shell protrudes from the mantle. The nucleus (embryonic housing) is still rolled up in a spiral, followed by a small plate that is only partially mineralized. The jaws are rudimentary or completely absent. The radula has 52 to 64 rows of single-pointed teeth; there are up to 56 teeth per transverse row.

Way of life and occurrence

Because of the radula and the anatomy of the throat, the animals are believed to be carnivores. Only the species Hyrcanolestus armeniacus Simroth is known to hunt earthworms. They occur in the Caucasus and in the mountains of northern Turkey and northern Iran.

Systematics

Schileyko (2003) subdivides the family into the subfamilies Trigonochlamydinae and Selenochlamydinae Likharev & Wiktor, 1980. Hausdorf (1998), on the other hand, subdivides it into Trigonochlamydinae and Parmacellillinae Hesse, 1926. Only the genera are listed here.
