Espes harlequin harlequin ( Trigonostigma espei ), also known as the red harlequin harlequin , is a small carp fish native to southeastern Thailand and Cambodia .

Systematics

Rasbora espei was first described by Meinken in an aquarium magazine as a subspecies of the harlequin harlequin ( Rasbora heteromorpha ) and named after H. Espe, a German importer of ornamental fish, who probably first introduced the species. However, the first description does not contain a comprehensible diagnosis , so that the identity with the Rasbora espei, which was raised to the species rank by Rainboth and Kottelat (1987), is not certain. Therefore the status of this species is questioned again and again.

features

Espes harlequin harlequin only reaches a body length of 2.5 (♂) to 4 (♀) centimeters. Its body is a little more elongated than that of the harlequin harlequin. The basic color is deep orange-red. The dark wedge typical of harlequin harlequin is narrower at the front than that of harlequin harlequin and appears, especially in females, almost as a longitudinal and a transverse band, which are put together at a 90 ° angle at the front. The distance to the edge of the abdomen is about the same as its front width.

Espes harlequin harlequin lives in heavily overgrown ponds, ponds and swamps.
