Trio Scho

Trio Scho is a music group from Poltava , Ukraine , which has been operating from Berlin since 1994 .

About the trio

Since the 1990s, the presence of Russian music has been characteristic of certain parts of Berlin (e.g. Prenzlauer Berg ), in which the immigration of people from the former Soviet Union has also led to integration . The Trio Scho, with its numerous projects, represents this like hardly any other group.

"SCHO" (Russian "schto") is a slang word from Odessa and means something like "What should be ?!" The three musicians from SCHO met in their hometown of Poltava in the Ukraine in 1991:

Gennadij Desiatnik: vocals, violin and guitar

Valery Khoryshman: accordion and vocals

Alexander Zhukov: double bass and vocals

From this encounter came the first program of Trio SCHO: Old Russian Swing (Gorodskie Pesni, Russian: songs of the cities) - a way of playing that has almost been forgotten. After the first successes in their homeland, the trio traveled to Germany in 1994 and played the same Russian tangos, swing titles and romances from the 1920s in Berlin, a city that has since become the adopted home for the musicians - with the exception of Alexander Zhukov who kept coming back to Poltava and finally stayed there. So the position of the double bass changed. Andreas Krumwiede from Hanover played in the trio for a few years, later Michael Jach and Valeriy Pysarenko from Berlin. And since 2012 a man from Russia: Alexander Franz.

In 1996 the collaboration with the French chanson singer Jean-Pierre Morkerken was added and from 1997 the trio played the musical interludes in the legendary "Talk 2000" Christoph Schlingensiefs ( VOX ). In the course of the following years the collaboration with Karsten Troyke also developed . In 1999 the joint concert program was created: “Schweig, Towarisch” - Russian-Yiddish songs from the Soviet Union. This was followed by several song programs a. a. with compositions by Gennadij Desiatnik and texts by Troyke, in 2004 such an evening was recorded in Leipzig at the Schaubühne Lindenfels (Sunset Movie). They also continued to play the Yiddish song programs, including a. at the Klezmer Festival in Ancona in 2004 and in Brussels and Warsaw in 2005. Documentaries and concert films were also made of these performances (“Yiddish Soul”).

A joint work with Ursula Karusseit and Günter Junghans in Josh Sellhorn's program: "Sleep faster, comrade ..." from the Jazz-Lyrik-Prosa series is still one of the most popular programs in this series. Trio Scho was also a regular guest at the Hackesche Hoftheater in Berlin, which has since disappeared .

Since 2005 the trio has been playing twice a year with clarinetist Jan Hermerschmidt in the chamber music hall of the Philharmonie in Berlin ("The best Of Klezmer", again with Karsten Troyke). In 2006 the trio SCHO played the music for the CD "Tango oyf yiddish" and in 2012 for "Tang oyf yiddish" Vol. 2 by Karsten Troyke.

In 2007 and 2008 you were guests at the "Fête de L'Humanité " in Paris. Trio SCHO accompanied the chansonnier Christophe Bourdoiseau on their debut CD "Tant de saisons perdues" in 2008, in 2009 on the production of "Constellation périphérique" and in 2011 on the CD "La Mort du loup".

The work for TV and film continues: As a film band they played in 2008 in The Dust of Time by Theo Angelopoulos . The 10-part series In the Face of Crime by Dominik Graf Trio Scho showed again with Russian songs and was broadcast on arte in spring 2010 . In 2009 Trio SCHO took part in the film production “Der Uranberg” by Dror Zahavi .

In the summer of 2010 the fourth CD of the trio - "Kievan Tramway" was recorded. Songs from the Black Sea, Kiev and Odessa. It was produced by Karsten Troyke and was published by Danzone - Oriente Musik.

In 2008 the Trio Scho launched a new project "ODESSA EXPRESS" - with RussaNova from Berlin, original compositions by Gennadij Desiatnik, e.g. Some with German texts by Karsten Troyke.

In 2012, also at Danzone - Oriente Musik, the first CD of Odessa Express "RussaNova" was released.
