Tripod Island (from English tripod , tripod, tripod ' ) is an island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the group of the Melchior Islands , it is located immediately south of the western foothills of the Etainsel and marks the north side of the western entrance to Andersen Harbor .
The name probably goes back to scientists working for the British Discovery Investigations in 1927. Argentine scientists surveyed the island in 1942, 1943, and 1948.
