He made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on February 11, 2011 in Blue Mountain , where he finished 33rd.

Tafel won his first World Cup points on December 18, 2011 with 9th place in Innichen . This was his best result for around two months, until he surprisingly won the World Cup race in Götschen on February 25, 2012 .
