The dry biotope Kies-Trasse emerged from the remains of the ring road around Munich. Construction began in 1938, but stopped when the war broke out. The section of the existing route remained standing. After that, it was the location of barracks that housed prisoners of war and refugees after the war. In 1941, camp III was built on the gravel dam. Up until the end of the war, 1,300 French prisoners of war were housed in the barracks, many of whom had to work for Krauss-Maffei . Today a memorial stone reminds of it. The biotope changed through the removal of gravel for the construction of the A 99. Goteboldstraße crosses the biotope.
