Drum (heraldry)

Drum in the coat of arms of Uganda

The drum as a musical instrument occurs particularly, but not only, in non-European heraldry . There is one in the national coat of arms of Uganda . In many coats of arms it has become a sign of rule. A country-specific form is predominantly chosen. The drum can appear as a common figure and also as a fitting in the coat of arms. The coloring is not always in the heraldic tinctures . Especially since the 18th century the drum has had a place as a gem in heraldic art. It is not very common in European heraldry. Minstrels' trains occasionally show a drum in the club's coat of arms on their club flags. The reverse representation, coat of arms on drum, is also common, but then it is not heraldry.
