Tronfjell (also just Tron ) is the name of a 1,666 m high conical mountain in the municipality of Alvdal in Østerdalen , Norway , in the Norwegian province of Innlandet . The isolated mountain visually dominates northern Østerdalen; Approx. 50 km away is the Rondane massif.

Telecommunication systems

On the Tronfjell there is a 45 m high transmission mast for the transmission of TV and radio signals. Later, a radar system for air traffic control was built for the connection between Oslo and Trondheim. In 1960, a radio link between Oslo and Trondheim was built on the station. TV programs have been broadcast by the station since 1963. A converter for the NRK TV2 program was put into operation in November 1993.

In 1969 a station of Norway's first mobile network, the Offentlig Landmobil Telefoni, was built on the Tron. The service was finally discontinued in 1990 and replaced by NMT ( Nordisk Mobil Telefon ). In 1994 a GSM converter from Telenor and NetCom was installed.

A gravel road leads through the location at about 1,200 meters Tronplateau, Flattron called up to the summit. This can be used by everyone, but subject to a fee and due to the weather conditions only passable for a few months of the year. The western slope of the mountain is used for hang-gliding in summer.

Plan for a Peace University

On the slope of the mountain below the Alm Tronsvangen the Indian Philosophy Professor and lived 1917-1945 Hindu - Guru Swami Sri Ananda Acharya (1881 to 1945), short name Baral . He was friends with the Norwegian poet and writer Arne Garborg and became known in Norway for his vision that Tronfjell should become the site of a peace university. These plans were concretized by his followers up to an architect's draft of the university buildings to be built on the Tron plateau. Swami Sri Ananda died on Peace Day, May 8th 1945, and was buried below the summit of Tronfjell. On the Tron plateau an approx. 4 m high stone pillar reminds of the guru. Metal plates with inscriptions of his teachings were placed near this column.
