Trudi Kocher

Trudi Kocher (born November 1, 1902 in St-Imier as Martha Lydia Kocher , † April 20, 1986 in Reinach ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

The daughter of the Protestant city missionary of Bern attended grammar school and business school in Bern . From 1923 to 1926 she worked at the Swiss consulate in Cologne. She belonged to the Swiss Communist Party , later to the Swiss Social Democratic Party . With her husband Jacob Selig she ran the German bookshop in Geneva from 1926 to 1930 . In 1930 they moved to Basel . From the 1930s she was managing director of the Swiss Motor Road Association and editor of its magazine Die Autostrasse for 37 years . During the Second World War , she provided help for emigrants and refugees, and later she headed the Basel section of the Swiss League for Human and Civil Rights . In the 1970s she campaigned for refugees from Chile .

As one of the first women, Kocher was a member of the Citizens' Council of the City of Basel from 1964 to 1975 and of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt from 1968 to 1976 .
