The Tschachtlan family was a Bernese notable family from the late Middle Ages.

The Tschachtlan are likely to come from the Simmental , where the castellan is called Tschachtlan (cf. French Châtelain ). Peter Tschachtlan is from 1374 Weibel in Frutigen , a Hensli Schachtlan is documented in Spiezwiler in 1414. In 1371, Jenni Schachtlan from Burgistein was the first bearer of the name in Bern . The Tschachtlan were u. a. related to the Bernese notable families of Kiental and Reber. Niklaus Tschachtlan († around 1412), member of the Small Council around 1400, was an uncle of the wealthy Ita Reber, widow of Johann Reber. Ita Reber was a daughter of the Bernese town clerk Johann von Kiental and sister of Elsbeth von Kiental. In 1452 Bendicht Tschachtlan married the widow of the Venner Johann von Kiental.

The Tschachtlan owned family stalls in the Brügglerkapelle of the Bern Minster .

A connection between the Tschachtlan and the Tschachtli (Tschachti, Tschatis) from Freiburg and Murten , which are still in bloom in Kerzers , has not yet been proven.
