At the Tschingelsee in the rear Kiental

The Tschingelsee lies in the rear of the Kiental ; it was created in July 1972 after a violent thunderstorm, which caused a large debris flow on the slopes of the Ärmighorn . The bed load blocked the Gornernbach (also called Gornerewasser) at today's tributary of the Sagibach and formed a dam. The Tschingelsee built up behind it.

Emergence

Tschingelalp can be seen on the aerial photo from July 26, 1961 (center). The severe storm on the night of July 18, 1972 triggered a debris flow on the Ärmighorn, which buried the Tschingelalp and quickly built a 6 m high dam. The mountain streams dammed up behind it, z. B. the Gornerenbach, and formed the 300 m wide and 800 m long Tschingelsee overnight.

Siltation

Due to the shrinking Gamchi Glacier, the Gornerenbach has carried more and more debris since the 1990s. Most of this debris is deposited in Lake Tschingel and leads to its siltation.

Protected area of national importance

In 1987 the Tschingelsee was included in the federal inventory of floodplain areas of national importance .
