Tsuji Kunio
Tsuji Kunio ( Japanese 辻 邦 生 ; born September 24, 1925 in Tokyo , † July 29, 1999 in Karuizawa ) was a Japanese writer.
Life
Tsuji attended Matsumoto High School together with Kita Morio . He studied French literature at Tokyo University . He lived in France from 1957 to 1960, which is also reflected in his work. He made his debut in 1963 with Kairō nite ( 廻廊 に て ), for which he received the prize for contemporary literature ( 近代 文学 賞 , Kindai Bungakushō). One of his most famous works, also translated into English, is Azuchi ōkanki ( The Signore ). Tsuji died of a heart attack in Karuizawa (Nagano) hospital at the age of 73 .
In terms of literary history, Tsuji made an appearance particularly through his period novels. Like his friend and fellow writer Kita Morio, Tsuji was particularly influenced by Thomas Mann . Testimony to this influence is a multitude of conversations ( 対 談 ) that Tsuji and Kita had about Thomas Mann, as well as Tsuji's book Thomas Mann .
