Sabal uresana is a species of plant in the genus Sabal within the palm family (Arecaceae). The natural range is in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental in northwestern Mexico . The specific epithet uresana refers to the small town of Ures in the Mexican state of Sonora . The German common name Sonora-Palmetto refers to their homeland and the related palmetto palm ( Sabal palmetto ).

Vegetative characteristics
The Sonoran palmetto is a fast-growing, large palm species. It reaches heights of growth of up to 20 meters and a trunk diameter of up to 40 centimeters. Young palms have bluish-green, fan-shaped leaves, while older ones tend to appear green.
Generative characteristics
The inflorescence hangs over arching and reaches the length of the leaves. The fruits are round to pear-shaped and flattened with a diameter of 13 to 18 millimeters.
Occurrence
The natural habitat of the Sonoran Palmetto is the Sonoran Desert in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Mexico. The Sonora palmetto occurs at altitudes from sea level up to about 1500 meters.

It is robust and is used as an ornamental plant in subtropical and warm temperate regions in parks and gardens.
