Tuchmacherbrunnen (Vienna)
The Tuchmacherbrunnen or Tuchlaubenbrunnen is a fountain in Vienna's 1st district, Inner City .
history
The reason for the construction of the clothmaker's fountain in front of House Tuchlauben 8 was the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Mutual Insurance Company (originally: Municipal Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Jubiläums-Jubiläums-Lebens- und Rentenversicherungs-Anstalt ), which had its headquarters here. The fountain was unveiled on June 7, 1928.
The bronze figure of the fountain was created by Oskar Thiede . The figure was cast by Erzgießerei AG :. The base, the fountain bowl and the central column were made from Lindabrunn conglomerate . In addition to the bronze figure, the central column bears two bronze tablets with the inscriptions: “ The 'Beautiful Fountain' stood here from 1436 to the end of the 18th century ” and “ To beautify the cityscape, erected by the municipal insurance company on the occasion of its 30th anniversary under the mayor Karl Seitz in 1928 ”.
Between 1436 and 1753 the so-called “ beautiful fountain ” was located here , after which the house Tuchlauben 8 was also called “ Schönbrunnerhaus ”.
