The Tuchmacherhof Offermann is a former copper yard in the Oberstolberg district of the city of Stolberg (Rhld.) In the Aachen city region and is considered to be an important contemporary witness of the industrial change in the city's history.

History of the building

The building was erected in the 18th century as a copper yard and was in a central location within Stolberg between the Adler Apotheke , Bauschenberg , Schart , Knautzenhof and numerous smaller copper yards .

With the decreasing global economic importance of the Stolberg brass industry , this copper yard also lost its role as a production facility. There was an economic reorientation of Stolberg. Alternatives to the dominant role of the metal industry had to be developed. Johann Paul Offermann, a cloth maker from Imgenbroich , acquired the building in 1760 and set up a production facility for fine cloth there. It was in direct competition with the neighboring Krone cloth factory . The Offermann clothmaker's farm flourished for around 60 years before the clothmaking trade also migrated from Stolberg.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the front building was sold and a restaurant business was set up, other parts of the building threatened to deteriorate. In the mid-1980s, the building complex was completely renovated.

The individual buildings of the former clothmaker's yard Offermann are now used as residential buildings. The inner courtyard of the building complex was named after the former owner of the farm.

architecture

The late baroque courtyard consists of three individual buildings and was made from the quarry stone material that is common in the region , the bluestone quarries in the area . A garden wing of the house faces the neighboring Vichtbach . The complex includes an extensive forecourt and a bridge that connects the associated buildings on both sides of the stream.
