The Vichtbach or the Vicht is a flowing body of water in the Aachen city region , which flows through Roetgen from southwest to northeast and Stolberg (Rhld.) From south to north and then flows into the Inde . Its name is of Celtic origin.

course

The Vichtbach rises in Roetgen near the B 258 at the former Roetgener train station, where it is called Grölisbach. The valley of the Vichtbach, which is the largest creek in the municipality, begins in Roetgen. It flows around the Roetgener districts of Rott and Mulartshütte .

The Vichtbach then flows through the Stolberg districts of Zweifall and Vicht as well as the city center, before flowing into the Inde in the north of the urban area near Steinfurt / Velau shortly before the municipality border with Eschweiler .

Tributaries

In Roetgen, the Grölisbach on the right receives a tributary from the Roetgenbach , Schleebach and Dreilägerbach (after it emerges from the Dreilägerbachtalsperre ), all of which have their headwaters in the so-called “Roetgener Mulde”. From the confluence of the Roetgenbach, the Grölisbach is called Vichtbach.

In Rott it receives an inflow on the right hand side from Lensbach and in Mulartshütte from Rommerichsief. In case of doubt, he receives inflow from the Vollerbach and in the village from the Hasselbach on the right. In Münsterau the Eigertsief flows into it on the right hand side. In Vicht there are two smaller tributaries on the left, and at the end of the village the Abach (Fischbach) flows into it on the right. The Mausbach flows into the Vichtbach on the right hand side at nighttime balls, and the Rüstbach at Binsfeldhammer.

history

The water power of the Vichtbach is used by the ironworking hut of the same name in Mulartshütte, by the riding masters in Vicht and by the copper masters in Stolberg .

ecology

Vichtbach between Unterstolberg and the confluence with the Inde (January 2011)

In the past, behind the Mäurer & Wirtz and Prym plants in Stolberg on Zweifaller Strasse, the Vichtbach was contaminated. Today the Vichtbach has water quality class II (moderately polluted) in its entire course. From 1972 to 1981 it had grade II-III above the Stolberger Werke and grade III-IV below.

The straightening of the Vichtbach bed in downtown Stolberg was completed in the 1960s, after the old town of Stolberg had just suffered from flooding. Soil deposits and plants are removed annually or on request by the city of Stolberg, by the Eifel Rur WVER water association .
