In the tourist context , the district of Cuxhaven between the Weser and Elbe estuaries is referred to as Cuxland .

Terminology

The term Cuxland is an artificial word developed solely for the purpose of tourism advertising, but not a historical landscape designation. This refers in particular to the seaside resorts of the Wurster North Sea coast such as Dorum , Wremen and Midlum , as well as the seaside resorts of Sahlenburg , Duhnen and Döse , which belong to the city of Cuxhaven , and the city of Otterndorf .

tourism

The central points of attraction of the Cuxland are Sahlenburg, Duhnen and Döse, which offer a well-developed tourist infrastructure with restaurants and hotels of all kinds, holiday apartments, a leisure pool and leisure facilities as well as shops.

The majority of the holiday guests come from Lower Saxony , North Rhine-Westphalia , Bremen and Hamburg . With around 3 million overnight stays per year, Cuxhaven is the top of all health resorts in a German comparison . The coastal towns of the combined municipality of Land Wursten and Otterndorf are primarily a destination for families. Also of importance in the inland is the spa, cycling and riding tourism with a center in Bad Bederkesa .

Use of the term "Cuxland"

A resident holiday park company had the rights to the word "Cuxland" protected under trademark law back in 1997.

Disputes about this are documented in summer 2008. In this context, the district council adopted a resolution behind the general and broad use of the term Cuxland. The dispute ended in 2013.

Individual evidence
