Tucupido is a city in Venezuela , the administrative seat of the José Félix Ribas district in the state of Guárico .
The city has a population of around 55,000.
history
Tucupido was founded as the Indian village of Santo Thomás Apóstol de Tucupío in 1760 by fray Anselmo Isidro de Ardales. The mission's Indians were Cumanagotos and Palenques. On March 6, 1783, Bishop Mariano Martí visited the mission and found 105 houses there for 483 hectares.
Several battles of Venezuela's War of Independence took place in Tucupido and the surrounding area. There fell u. a. the Venezuelan independence hero José Félix Ribas on January 31, 1815.
