Ulrich Nonn

Ulrich Nonn (born January 21, 1942 in Ahrweiler ) is a German historian .

Ulrich Nonn studied history and German at the Universities of Bonn and Freiburg from 1961 to 1967 . In 1967 the first state examination for teaching at the grammar school took place. From 1967 to 1971 Nonn was a research assistant in Bonn. In 1971 he did his doctorate in Bonn under Eugen Ewig with the thesis Merovingian Testaments. Studies on the survival of a Roman document form in the Franconian Empire . From 1971 to 1982 he was a research assistant at the University of Bonn. In 1980/81 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn. In 1982 he was a substitute professor at Heidelberg University. In 1984 the second state examination for teaching at the grammar school took place. From 1984 to 1990 he was a teacher for German and history at the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Sankt Augustin . From 1991 until his retirement he taught at the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Nonn works primarily with other historians, German and Romance scholars from various universities on a DFG project to develop personal names from the 3rd to 8th centuries as indicators of linguistic, ethnic, social and cultural group membership. Another focus of work is the edition of sources on everyday history in the early and high Middle Ages. In 2010 he published a description of the late antique and early medieval Franks .
