Life

Tuhaj came from the Arğın family, one of the noble clans of the Crimean Khanate . His full name was Arğın Dogan Toğay Bej. He received the title of Bej as administrator of the Perekop Sanjaks , a strategic position of the Crimean khanate, since the Isthmus of Perekop was crucial for his defense.

He supported the Khmelnytskyi uprising in today's Ukraine against Polish rule by standing militarily with up to 20,000 Crimean Tatars on the side of the Zaporozhian Cossacks against Poland-Lithuania in 1648 . He took part in several battles during the Cossack Uprising. He died in the Battle of Beresteczko in 1651.
