Tullibody Old Kirk

The Tullibody Old Kirk , also Old Church of Tullibody , is a Romanesque church ruin in the Scottish town of Tullibody in the Council Area Clackmannanshire . In 1960 the building was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest category A. It is also part of a category B monument ensemble. The complex has been protected as a Scheduled Monument since 1936 . The surrounding cemetery is a category B monument.

history

The church dates from the 12th century, with a source specifying the year of foundation to 1149. It was rebuilt in the 16th century and renovated and changed again in 1760. The mounted bell tower dates from 1772. It was last used regularly with the completion of St. Serf's Church in 1904. In 1916 the roof and the window panes were removed.

description

The elongated building measures around 19 m × 7 m. The quarry stone masonry is still fully preserved today. The gable surfaces are made as a stepped gable . The two door openings date from the 16th century; including the eastern one from 1539. The rectangular eastern window openings were also added at this time. The small bell tower on the gable surface, on the other hand, dates from 1772. Most recently, in 1824 or 1833, window openings and an entrance area on the south side were added.
