Tumor board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A tumor board (also: the tumor conference ) offers an approach to treatment planning for malignant diseases , in which a number of doctors who are experts in various medical specialties review and discuss a patient's medical condition and treatment options. The specialty of the participants in a tumor board depends on the respective disease. Oncologists , surgeons from various disciplines ( surgery , dermatology, gynecology , senology , urology ), as well as radiologists , radiation therapists and pathologists are regularly represented . The result of the assessment and treatment planning is also known as an interdisciplinary opinion. The interdisciplinary definition of treatment strategies and subsequent feedback on the course of the disease have, in addition to the benefit for the patients, a further training effect for the doctors involved.
