Tumulus of Nillizia

The tumulus of Nillizien (French: La sépulture circulaire de Lann-en-ilizien à Silfiac or sépulture circulaire de Pontivy - German circular grave of Pontivy) is an Iron Age tumulus in Pontivy in the Morbihan department in Brittany in France . It is located in the western part of "Square Lenglier", near the St. Joseph Church.

The building is a domed structure with a mound of earth, which is surrounded by a two-tier, low, slightly conical, round wall made of neatly finished dry masonry . It is about 5.4 m in diameter and 1.7 m in height. The monument served around 600 BC. A Gallic chief and his family as a grave.

The tumulus was discovered in 1890 in the village of Nillizien (in Silfiac ), in the Morbihan, dismantled and rebuilt in Pontivy in 1891 by the archaeologist Jerome Le Brigand. It got its current place in 1906. It contained three urns that are in the Musée d'Histoire et d'Archéologie in Vannes . The tumulus was classified as a monument historique in 1892 .
