Mustafa Tunç Soyer (* 1959 in Ankara ) is a Turkish politician with the Republican People's Party (CHP) and mayor of the Turkish city of Izmir since 2019 .

Life

After graduating from school in Bornova , Soyer studied law at Ankara University . He also has two master's degrees (one each from Webster University Geneva and one from Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi ).

Prior to his work as mayor, Soyer was an advisor to the then mayor of Izmir, Ahmet Piriştina , and also co-secretary general of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce. In the local elections in 2009 he was elected as a CHP candidate for mayor of Seferihisar and confirmed in office five years later . Soyer stood as a CHP candidate for the office of Lord Mayor of Izmir in the 2019 local elections and won with just under 58%.

Soyer is married and has two children.
