Tuoshan Grottoes

The Tuoshan Grottoes ( Chinese  駝 山 石窟  /  驼 山 石窟 , Pinyin Tuóshān shíkū , English Tuoshan Grottoes ) are a Buddhist cave temple complex from the time of the Northern Zhou (577-581) to Tang Dynasty (613-907). It is located in the district-free city of Qingzhou in Shandong Province , China in the Tuoshan Mountains (" Camel Mountain ").

638 stone sculptures with many representations of the Buddha have been preserved in the five main grottos. The largest statue, that of the seated Buddha, is over 7 meters high.

The Tuoshan Grottoes have been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China in Shandong (3-46) since 1988 .
