Turnagra is a genus of songbirds that was endemic to the island of New Zealand . The only two representatives have been considered extinct since the middle of the 20th century.

In German they were formerly referred to as New Zealand thrushes , but they only have a casual fleeting resemblance to the thrush family . The genus Turnagra formerly stood in the family Turnagridae, based on DNA studies has found, however, that they are more with the family leaves birds have in common in Australia. Therefore, in 2010 the International Ornithological Committee made a transfer of the genus Turnagra to the family Ptilonorhynchidae. Another study from 2011 found a close relationship with the orioles .

The main reasons for their extinction were the destruction of their forest habitats and the reenactment by invasive animals such as cats and rats .
