Turner Hall Milwaukee

Turner Hall is a historic, Grade II listed building in Milwaukee , Wisconsin in the United States . The building was built for the German-American Socialist Gymnastics Club (today: Milwaukee Turners ) founded in 1853 .

architecture

The four-story building was planned by the architect Henry C. Koch and built in the historicism style in 1882 and moved into in 1883. The interior has a two-story ballroom with a balcony, fitness rooms, restaurant / beer hall and conference rooms.

In 1994 the governor named the building one of the top ten historic buildings in Wisconsin . In 1996 it was classified as a National Historic Landmark . In 2000 the Turner Ballroom Preservation Trust was founded to renovate and preserve the historic ballroom.

Turner Hall is the only building in Milwaukee that is a National Landmark, on the National Registry of Historic Places, and a National Historic Landmark.
