Turning Point (Austrian band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Turning Point was a Styrian pop band . The group gained mainly notoriety in Austria with its mainstream pop music . Largest documented success was on August 15, 1973, the placement on the 15th place in the Austrian Single - Charts entitled Lady of My Heart .

Band history

The band was founded in 1969 under the name International Travelers by Johann Köberl ( Jimmy Cogan ) in Graz . Guitarist, singer and producer Alex Rehak joined Jimmy Cogan's band as lead singer in 1971 . The first LP Life Is Going On , released in 1972, sold 50,000 copies, and the track Easy Song (Song of La La La) composed by Rehak became a radio hit as a single. From 1970 to 1974 Turning Point performed across Europe. Turning Point was represented at up to 250 concerts per year.

A stroke that Alex Rehak suffered while performing on stage put an end to his career. The band broke up in 1977. In 1982 there was a comeback with Edmund Hierzer on guitar, Alexander Deutsch on drums and Ulrich Rennert on keyboards. In 1982 the band reached number 24 with “You win again” and number 16 with “Midnight Special Part 2” on the Ö3 hit parade. TV appearances in "Licht in's Dunkel", "Österreichbild", A Gaudi muss sein "and" Quiz in Red-White-Red "complemented the success.

Jimmy Cogan worked as a truck driver after Turning Point was broken up. In the 1990s, he and Kurt Keinrath founded Jim Cogan & Band , which mainly appeared as a live act at " Country & Western " events. In 2014, Alex Rehak met German producer Ulrich Eichblatt, who in turn teamed up with producer Andy Matern. Together they produced the new single "All You Need Is Love" in October, which was released in November of the same year.

In addition to the Turning Point project, Alex Rehak was also active as a producer. His record label TP-Records produced the title Young, Strong & Healthy in 1989 together with Otto Wanz . The song Hexen , published under the project name “ Ecco ” , was produced in 1987 for a state exhibition at the Riegersburg , reached number 1 in the Austrian charts and was awarded the Austrian Orpheus record award for the best-selling single of the year. Another project in which Alex Rehak is significantly involved as a producer is the band for Styria .
